[CLOSED ]Food review: Red Crab Restaurant 2 @ Nagoya Hill Batam

Red crab Restaurant is a seafood place that serves delicious and restaurant style Chinese cuisine. The food and ingredients used is of good quality and is comparable to famous restaurants like Jumbo in Singapore. Price wise, it is affordable and cost about 1/3 what one may pay in Singapore.

The restaurant is casual and able to accommodate large groups. It seems they have a small corner selling chinaware and tea.

Entering the restaurant, one will noticed the crab shells decorating the walls also live seafood tanks. It was Christmas eve and we spotted a small Christmas tree. We arrived at around 630pm to a rather empty restaurant and was able to select a table of our own choosing. There seem to be only 2 service crew available, one being Chinese and another Indonesian. As the restaurant was not too busy, we did not have to take too much effort to get the attention of the waiters. The Chinese waiter was also helpful to recommend dishes and we were able to order easily as there is no communication problem as I could only speak a few words of Bahasa.

Avocado juice was our drink of the night. Unlike our Singapore versions which typically is served with gula melaka, Batam's had chocolate sauce drizzle into the juice which tasted great. The creamy texture of the Avocado left me wanting for more.

We decided against having crabs despite it being the signature dish as we did not want to get our hands dirty. A nice garoupa steamed in Cantonese style was instead our highlight of the evening. The meat was succulent and tasted fresh. The texture is firm and does not crumble easily. The sauce was a perfect gave the dish life and we were smiling as we devour the entire 850 gram fish. I am not a big fan of ginger but I enjoyed the fried ginger that was used as garnish as frying it apparently removed the spicy taste associated with ginger.

7.8/10 850gram

To compliment our fish we had scallops! It was a little tough to pick the scallops off the shell. The sauce was a little spicy with lots of garlic being used and some chilli padi seen. It was tasty for me as I enjoy spicy food but too spicy for Missus.

7.5/10

We cant eat all this seafood without some greens so we ordered some broccoli with Pacific clams. Vegetables were crunchy and the oyster sauce goes well with the rest of the ingredients. The Pacific clams were decent size and springy in texture making every mouthful a delight.

7.5/10

To top it all off, we had some seafood fried bee hoon. Ingredients given were generous and fresh.

6.8/10

The dining experience at Red Crab was very pleasant and I will recommend diners to come for the seafood which are not only good value but also fresh and tasty from what we are able to get in Singapore.
